Most can be made to retain your key until the padlock is in the locked position so the possibility of losing your key is reduced.

American padlocks have a series that have aluminum bodies in 8 different colors. These can be used on lockout tags to prevent startup when someone may still be working on the equipment. The different colors may represent different divisions within the maintenance department.
Abus padlocks are extremely good locks providing a wide variety of residential and commercial keyways.
